Un Poco Mas
Investing in the Poco Way Community
In 2019 the San Jose Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Eddie Garcia, launched a unique initiative called Un Poco Mas, aimed at supporting Poco Way, a San Jose community with a high rate of crime and gang activity. In addition to implementing community policing policies that include simply walking around the neighborhood, officers have delivered backpacks to children, treated kids to dessert from the Department’s own ice cream truck and in early September brought a group of fourth- and fifth-grade students from Arbuckle Elementary School to the Santa Cruz Mountains for overnight camp. Translated to mean “a little more,” Un Poco Mas is meant to build relationships between police officers and community members and make this important community safer.
